GHADA AMER AS PART OF NOW + THERE, BOSTON, MA, UNITED STATES

WOMEN’S QUALITIES, 7 JUNE – 31 OCT 2023

This garden sculpture by Ghada Amer was first realised for South Korea’s Busan Biennial in 2001, before traveling to the Rockefeller Center in New York and Palm Spring’s Desert X, and now, can be seen as part pf a public art programme in Boston.

Today, after a poll conducted by the artist with local people, words like “loving” and “beautiful” were suggested alongside “resilient” and “strong. These words, alongside “determined,” “caring,” and “nurturing,” are here as planters housing an array of flora and fauna indigenous to the Northeast. Each planter contains a different plant, speaking to the diversity of characteristics that make up womanhood while providing a contemplative space to do it.
