TED STAMM AT SMART MUSEUM OF ART THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO, IL, UNITED STATES

IN TRANSIT, 27 Jun – 6 Aug 2023

This exhibition focuses on the ‘Wooster’ series that Ted Stamm began in 1974, inspired by the ground plan of a property near his SoHo studio at Wooster Street. As a continuation of early experiments with lines and forms, he developed a figure consisting of a rectangle fused with a triangle into a still simple but yet complex form.

Through a series of wood panel paintings, graphite drawings and archival material, the viewer encounters how Stamm played with the ‘Wooster’ form at different scales to affect a sense of malleability between colour, architecture, and place.
