The mural ‘Notes, Vihamanaafushi, Indian Ocean’, inspired by Elisabeth Frieberg's color notes from her 2019 visit to Vihamanaafushi, a Maldivian island, now graces the walls of the Center for Retailing at SSE (Stockholm School of Economics). It serves as a poignant reminder of the significance of actively documenting one’s experiences.
This mural also serves as a sobering reflection on the vulnerability of places like the Maldives to the ravages of climate change. These islands stand as a symbol of the profound impact of climate change. It faces a multitude of challenges, from rising sea levels and the degradation of its protective coral reefs due to ocean acidification, to an alarming increase in the frequency and severity of natural disasters.

Frieberg’s notes taking shape on the walls serves as a compelling reminder of the vital role curiosity and creativity play in applying one’s knowledge and skill. What was once her notes has now been beautifully transformed into visual compositions and and shapes, spanning across two floors and covering an impressive 150 square meters of wall space. This transformation underscores the idea that even in our most scholarly pursuits, the fusion of art, curiosity, and innovation can yield profound insights and lasting inspiration.
