Dia Beacon opens 'Imi Knoebel' on 28 May in one of its large central galleries. Focusing on early works from the mid-1970s, the exhibition revolves around central questions of form, material, surface and the presentation in space.

One of Knoebel’s most important work groups of this time are his 'Mennigebilder' in which he used industrial Mennige-paint in combination with complex abstract shapes. Dia presents a 10-part series of this type from its collection that was only once before shown in Cologne in 1981. After being recently restored it now premieres in the USA in a presentation with further works by the artist such as two Mennige sculptures (1976/2017)
