For this exhibition the Japanese-Swiss artist was invited to present several sculptures on the grounds of the institution. Her three-dimensional work focuses on hybridity through uncanny creatures that poetically merge human, vegetal and animal features equally inspired be the Japanese tradition and ecological disasters.
Seemingly growing like water lilies on the pool that surrounds the building designed by Santiago Calatrava, 6 bronze figures contrast against an urban landscape made of concrete and glas. Following an institutional exhibition in Burgos earlier this year, this show marks Leiko Ikemura’s return to Spain, where she studied.
