Pola Sieverding is part of 'Polaroids', a group exhibition that honors the photographic revolution of the 1960s, featured in EMOP (European Month of Photography) Berlin 2025. While not in technical terms, Polaroids can be viewed as a precursor to modern digital photography due to its immediate accessibility.
Polaroids, known for their uniqueness, gained popularity across various photographic genres, including landscape, still life, portrait, fashion, and nudes. Helmut Newton, especially drawn to Polaroid photography, used it extensively with his medium-format cameras, replacing roll film cassettes with instant film backs.
The Berlin exhibition showcases a diverse range of Polaroid processes and formats from Newton’s archive, alongside the work of 60 additional photographers. Featured formats include SX-70, Polacolor 20x24, FP-100, and Polaroid T808, as well as experimental treatments of individual prints and larger tableaux. Sieverding (b. 1981, Düsseldorf) is represented by her small-format SX-70 Polaroid series Valet (2014), which presents close-up views of male wrestlers.
