During the 2020 global lockdown, Bernardi Roig found himself confined to his home in Mallorca, Spain, where he embarked on a creative journey. Over the course of this period, he produced 55 drawings, one each day, inspired by the tragic story of Francisco José de Goya.

Roig's artwork serves as a poignant reflection on Goya's unsettling fate and the profound isolation experienced during the pandemic, encouraging viewers to reflect on the enduring significance of art in times of uncertainty.
Like, Duncan Phillips, the founder of the Phillips Collection, shared Roig's deep admiration for Goya's artistry. In 1936, Phillips acquired Goya’s Repentant St. Peter, considering it a bridge between past artistic traditions and contemporary expression. Today, nearly two centuries after Goya's passing, Roig's drawings evoke a sense of nostalgia while urging viewers to find solace in the universal human experiences depicted in art.
