This publication accompanies Bernd Koberling’s exhibition ‘Wir Inseln. 297 Aquarelle un 7 große Bilder’, with words by the art historian Kirsten Claudia Voigt.

During his yearly stays in Iceland since 1977, Koberling immerses into a self-imposed state of isolation. Nourished by close encounters with nature, he creates numerous watercolours on paper which not only serve as a pictorial aid to memory that he uses for his paintings back in his Berlin studio; they also form an independent group of works.

Bernd Koberling's watercolours celebrate with liberated joi de vivre –whether in large or small format –the wealth of phenomena of the world not made by human beings.
