We are delighted to announce that the work ‘Blue Oranges’ (2023) by Johanna Dumet has been acquired by the German Parliament in Berlin (Deutscher Bundestag).
Fruits, crockery and household objects are depicted more sequentially than realistically in this work. Proportions and perspective recede into the background behind this colourful arrangement.
Johanna Dumet's reference to the genre of the still life, to which she has already devoted her artistic attention in earlier works, remains visible. For the pictures in this series, Dumet works with a very restrained colour palette; here it is blue, orange and white. Like the everyday objects depicted, she takes the colours from her own swift impressions from her surroundings, from the city or nature. It is a game with her own perception of random, ephemeral moments, with the reduction and concentration of impressions. This game utilises the formal reduction of the figurative to create space for the viewer to make narrative associations.
