Mallorca International Art Award 2022: A Review, 5 May – 2 June 2023

As part of the Mallorca International Art Award, Marcelo Viquez and ten other artists present their works as a reflection of the creative panorama of Mallorca. Through different generations, disciplines and themes, the exhibition explores topics such as politics, ecology, graphics, metaphysics or their own biography.

We use metaphors and literary figures to convey a profound message, for example "touching death with one's fingertips" to convey a sense of impending danger or mortality. However, the idea that someone cannot touch death due to a lack of fingers suggests that there is an insurmountable obstacle between life and death, something that prevents death from being accessible. This can be interpreted in different ways: as an affirmation of the importance of fingers in our perception of the world and ability to interact with it, or as a suggestion that death is something beyond our reach and control. Either way, a powerful and evocative image for exploring deep themes related to life and death, it invites us to reflect on our own mortality and the role that our physical and emotional abilities play in our understanding of the world around us
